Things to do and places to go in the local area
The pubs local to us are The Springer Spaniel, Treburley. The Royal Inn, Horsebridge and The Church House Inn at Linkinhorn.
We are within easy reach of both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor for hiking, walking, mountain biking and pony trekking. Princetown in the heart of Dartmoor is famous for its prison and is also a great place to start a walk. There is also a superb little museum about the life of the prison and its many uses over the years. The market town of Tavistock on the edge of Dartmoor was the birth place of Sir Francis Drake and well worth a visit. It has a great indoor pannier market selling great local products and food.
Within a 45 minute drive are the coastal town of Bude and villages of Boscastle, Tintagel, Looe and Polperro where you can walk along the coastal path, stroll through the streets and sample great Fish and Chips. Boat and fishing trips available from Looe.
The beaches on the north coast are great for surfing and body boarding or just building sandcastles.
The City of Plymouth is 20 miles away with all the shops and attractions of any major city as well as the famous Hoe with views out to the Plymouth sound. There are park and ride facilities or travel on the Tamar Valley train line from Gunnislake.
Launceston is the nearest town to us which has a great selection of pubs and shops. There are regular farmers markets selling local produce and crafts.
Stunning views can be had at Kit Hill and there is a great little café Louis Tearooms at the bottom for a cream tea and refreshments.
National Trust properties nearby are Cotehele, Lanhydrock, Castle Drogo, Finch foundry and Lydford Gorge. Pentillie Castle which last year featured on Channel 4's Country House Rescue has now been renovated and stage open days to visit the gardens.
Activities for children include Launceston Steam Railway, Trethorne Leisure Park, Colliford Lake Park, Tamar Donkey and Tamar Otter Sanctuaries. Indoor swimming pools can be found at Launceston and Tavistock.
Launceston Golf and Rugby club are a 15 minute drive and St Mellion Golf and Country Club is 20 minutes away.
The river Tamar is a great place for many activities including salmon and trout fishing, canoeing, boat trips or just watching the great wildlife and birds.
There is plenty for everyone in the Tamar Valley!
